Tanager Recognizes Achievements in Nutrition

Dr. Lawrence Haddad, Executive Director of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), and Dr. David Nabarro, Strategic Director of Skills, Systems & Synergies for Sustainable Development (4SD) received the 2018 World Food Prize at the annual Laureate Award Ceremony in Des Moines, Iowa. The two were honored for their individual and complementary global leadership in elevating maternal and child undernutrition to a central issue within the food security and development dialogue at national and international levels.

“I am inspired by these laureates’ lifetime dedication to improving nutrition around the world,” said Tanager President Ana Bilik. “Their work in the area of improving nutrition for mothers and children in a child’s first three years of life increases health, cognitive ability, and productivity in the long run. A true pathway out of poverty.”

The award ceremony took place during the annual World Food Prize celebration week that also includes The Borlaug Dialogue International Symposium. This year’s theme, “Rise to the Challenge,” focused on the significant steps that must be taken to meet the challenge of sustainably and nutritiously feeding over 9 billion people by 2050. “The World Food Prize’s focus on nutrition highlights the important outcomes that are achieved from increased productivity in agriculture,” Ms. Bilik said.
