Give to Gain: How IGNITE+ is Strengthening Agricultural Institutions to Empower Women

Summary

  • “Give to Gain” Investing in Women Strengthens Systems: The webinar series, held in celebration of International Women’s Day 2026, emphasizes that investing in women through institutional reform, knowledge, and partnerships leads to stronger, more inclusive agrifood systems and improved nutrition outcomes.
  • Institutional Change Creates Ripple Effects: Through IGNITE+, Tanager demonstrates how strengthening agricultural institutions drives cascading benefits empowering women farmers, improving service delivery, and enhancing household nutrition security.
  • Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue for Systemic Transformation: The regional webinars in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Kenya bring together government, private sector, civil society, financial institutions, and development partners to address systemic barriers and accelerate gender and nutrition integration across Africa’s agrifood systems.

To mark International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026, Tanager’s Impacting Gender and Nutrition through Innovative Technical Exchange in Agriculture (IGNITE+) project will host a series of high-level regional webinars aimed at championing gender equality, sharing evidence, and accelerating inclusive partnerships that advance gender and nutrition integration across Africa’s agrifood systems.

The theme, “Give to Gain”, underscores the transformative power of generosity, reciprocity, and collective action in advancing women’s empowerment. It further highlights that when individuals, organizations, and communities invest in various ways including resources, knowledge, mentorship, or advocacy in women, the society gains by fostering stronger, more resilient, and inclusive systems.

Additionally, the theme resonates strongly with the United Nations’ declaration of 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer. Both initiatives reinforce the importance of investing in women in agriculture as a pathway to more productive agricultural systems, improved nutrition outcomes and more resilient rural communities.

This upcoming webinar series will convene various agrifood system stakeholders’ including development partners, civil society organization’s, private sector actors, financial institutions, government entities, entrepreneurs, academia, women and youth among others, to connect global commitments with local realities. The discussions will showcase how “giving” to African agricultural institutions can translate into collective gains for households, markets, food security and better nutrition outcomes.  Specifically, the webinar will aim to:

  1. Promote understanding of the IWD theme “Give to Gain” and its implications for gender equality.
  2. Highlight the impact of IGNITE+ technical assistance to agricultural institutions and its cascading effects on women farmers and households.
  3. Foster dialogue on systemic barriers and opportunities for innovation in empowering women farmers.
