Arlene Mitchell


Ms. Mitchell is the Executive Director of the Global Child Nutrition Foundation, a global network of government and non-profit implementers and experts working to ensure that children around the world have nutritious, locally-sourced meals at school. Previously, she was Senior Program Officer and then Deputy Director for Agricultural Development at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Ms. Mitchell was also an executive in the United Nations World Food Programme leading school feeding programs and raising awareness about child hunger. She also managed international technical assistance for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and served both as a volunteer and as a staff member of the Peace Corps. Her work in these various capacities has involved extensive international travel (particularly in Africa), and living experiences in Niger, Mauritania, Ukraine, and Italy. Ms. Mitchell currently serves on the boards of GrainPro and Solidaridad, and is active in a food security-related effort involving a new non-toxic product to control rat populations.
